Reasons to Wear Rimless Frames Eyeglasses

So let’s begin with the ‘when’. There are multiple reasons you would want to go for classic rimless frames, and not everything is just about looks! Here’s a couple:

  • You want a minimalistic look: Let’s be honest here, if you go for something flashy or over the top in the eyeglasses department, people are going to notice it more than your face. If you’re the kind who wants to keep attention to yourself more and less to your accessories or wardrobe, the rimless look is definitely for you.
  • You don’t want to keep getting new frames to keep up with trends: Trends come and go, and a lot of folks like being with the times, getting new frames and reinventing themselves. It’s not a bad thing of course, but not everyone wants to or needs to be that fashionable. If you’re the latter kind, rimless glasses should be your choice because it never goes out of style, and doesn’t really clash with anything. It’s neutral!

  • You don’t like wearing glasses, and want something unnoticeable: Or maybe you’re the kind who’s not particularly smitten with the idea of wearing something on your face all the time to see better, and you’d rather have something that neither you nor anyone else would notice too much. Since rimless frames are lighter, you can wear them and not feel like there’s something weighty on your nose all the time.
  • You’re not overly concerned with looks: Yeah we all want to look clean and presentable, but if you’re the sort of person who doesn’t really want to fuss too much about his or her appearance, and prefer something that’s ‘wear it and forget it’, rimless frames are the way to go.

Rimless frames are mainly just two lightweight yet durable lenses joined together at the bridge (nose) and connected to the temples by tiny screws. They also have an invisible thread encircling them for added protection and stability. Since all of this is very minimal material, rimless frames are also among the lightest of frames. Speaking of which, being lightweight is one of the biggest advantages of using rimless frames.

Advantages of Rimless Frames

  • Lightweight and Unobtrusive: We all know that the number one reason anyone would prefer rimless eyeglasses are because they’re lightweight. Look, if you’re going to rest something on the top of your nose for the most part of the day, for what could be the rest of your life, it might as well be easily manageable, right?
  • It goes with anything: Think about it, whether you’re at the office, at a picnic or shopping at a mall, rimless frames won’t ever look out of place. Instead of clashing with any outfits, rimless frames tend to ‘blend’ in with your look and complement it. So in short, you can look great without making too much of an effort, how cool is that?
  • The lenses can be changed easily: In case your glasses fall down and break or shatter, you can easily replace the broken lens or lenses and everything will look as good as new. There’s no frame replacement cost involved!
  • You have a better field of view: With all this talk about how they look and feel, people almost always overlook the fact that you have a larger field of vision with rimless glasses. Since there’s no thick frame coming in between, you can see more and better, in some cases.

Disadvantages of Rimless Frames

It’s not all fine and dandy though, there are a couple of problems you might have to deal with, or things you need to consider before getting a pair of rimless glasses.

  • They need to be maintained properly: Rimless glasses are still more delicate than regular glasses, no matter the materials used, so you need to be careful about using them. Regular maintenance includes tightening the screws and such.
  • The lenses are exposed to the elements: If you drop your glasses, the lenses can easily get chipped or broken since they’re not surrounded by a protective frame. This obviously means you need to be extra careful.
  • They’re expensive: Even though there’s technically less material used, the materials that have been used have to be of the very best quality to last long. You’ll frequently find titanium frames and such, and they don’t come for cheap. As a result, you might just end up paying more for rimless glasses compared to ordinary ones.
